How do you play sudoku?

Fill the empty cells with digits 1 to 9 so that every row, every column and every 3×3 box contains each digit once. Select a cell and press a digit on the number pad or keyboard.

How many difficulty levels are there?

Four: easy, medium, hard and expert. The level depends not only on the number of givens but on the techniques needed to solve the puzzle.

Does every puzzle have one solution?

Yes. Every sudoku is checked by a program: the solution is unique and can be found by logic, without guessing.

Do I need to sign up?

No. You can play sudoku for free right now with no sign-up — the game starts as soon as the page opens.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. Your unfinished puzzle, time and statistics are saved in the browser automatically: close the tab and come back later.

How do I add notes?

Turn on Notes mode (N key) and press digits — they appear in the cell in small print, like pencil marks. When you place a digit, matching notes in its row, column and box are removed automatically.

Can I print sudoku?

Yes. On the Print page choose the level and how many puzzles to fit on a page — 1 to 6. Answers are printed on a separate page.

Can I play on my phone?
